useanyplaintexteditortoeditthem,whilethesimplecommandlinetoolhtpasswdfrom
thestandarddistributionpackageoftheApacheservercanbeusedtogeneratepasswords.

Butwhenthenumberofserverusersincreases,maintainingthefiles.htpasswdand
.htgroupbecomesaproblemfortheadministrator.Regularly,youhavetoremoveold
users,addnewones,generatepasswordsforthem,moveusersfromonegrouptoanother,
sendtheemailnotificationstotheusersandchangetheirlogins.Afterawhile,there
mayappeargroupswithnon-existingusers,userswiththesameloginsorusersthatare
notincludedinanygroup.

HtpasswdGeneratorisaprogramthatwillnotallowsuchsituationsandhelpyou
organizedatainthefiles.htpasswdand.htgroup.HtpasswdGenerator"binds"datafrom
thesetwofilesandlookslikeaconvenientshellwithagraphicalinterfaceformanaging
users,usergroupsandtheirpasswords.
